Debian operating system version 12 has been available for a little over a year (June 2023). A new stability update was released (12.6) on June 29. Summary of what’s new.

Voici donc la sixth update of the Debian 12 stable distribution (codenamed Bookworm). While fixing some essential issues, this update mainly fixes security issues in the stable version, according to the official blog: 162 bugs were eradicated and 84 security fixes (just that) were brought. Suffice to say that the update is necessary for everyone!

By the way, if you frequently install updates from security.debian.org, you won’t have much to do, as most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update.

Debian 12.6 is released with a slightly patched Linux kernel (kernel-image-6.1.94-1). All desktop environments are also placed under newer editions, including GNOME 43.9, Xfce 4.18, Cinnamon 5.6.8, MATE 1.26.0, KDE Plasma 5.27.5 LTS, LXQt 1.2.0, and LXDE 0.10.1 . In short, the choice is yours!

If you still have them, there is no need to throw away the old version media Bookwormthe developers specify. Indeed, after installation, the packages can be upgraded to current versions thanks to an up-to-date Debian mirror. The list of mirrors can be found at this address.

The list of new features (and removed packages) can be viewed in the official “Changelog” file here.
