Microsoft is developing a new feature called Game Assist. It will integrate the Edge browser to facilitate access to gaming information directly from Windows 11. This advancement aims to resolve a common problem: having to interrupt a gaming session to search for solutions or guides.
What is Game Assist?
Game Assist is an Edge browser widget designed to display on top of your game. It allows players to easily access guides, videos, or walkthroughs without leaving their gaming session. Available in preview with Edge beta 132, it also integrates with the Game Bar widget panel (accessible via the Win+G shortcut).
To activate it, you must:
- Download and install Edge Beta.
- Update Edge and Game Bar.
- Set Edge Beta as the default browser for HTTPS links.
Without these settings, the widget may display an error message.
How does Game Assist work?
Once configured, Game Assist can be pinned and resized so as not to obstruct the screen. It is capable of automatically recognizing games. It can therefore suggest specific content for certain popular titles, such as:
- League of Legends
- Minecraft
- Overwatch 2
- Diablo IV
- Fortnite
- Roblox
- Valuing
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Hellblade II : Senua’s Saga
When testing with unsupported games, Game Assist does not work. On the other hand, with compatible titles, it offers solutions, such as tutorials or YouTube videos linked to specific missions or levels.
Although testing did not reveal any major bugs, Microsoft emphasizes that crashes may occur knowing that Game Assist is offered through the Windows Insider program. It is likely that once fully deployed in the stable version of Edge, Game Assist will become a valuable asset for players, especially in complex games.
