The authors tracked the blood alcohol habits of 1,900 guinea pigs. According to the first conclusions of the report, exclusive beer consumers have a less favorable health profile than wine lovers. They are distinguished by consumption of less healthy foods, higher daily calorie intake, reduced physical activity and a higher propensity to smoke.

Socio-demographic characteristics influence food choices

These differences in consumption could be explained, according to the author of the study, Doctor Madeline Novack, by the context of consumption. For example, beer is often associated with foods high in carbohydrate intake (often salty and fried) and low in fiber (few vegetables), in order to encourage drinking. Wine is accompanied by more balanced foods.

Finally, beer drinkers are on average young men, often smokers and with modest incomes. These characteristics would also influence their food choices. As a reminder, alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, with certain behaviors proving risky.
