Motorola beats Samsung to the post with its Razr 50 and 50 Ultra, and announces another smartphone

While the month of July should be marked by the launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy Flip and Fold on the sidelines of the 2024 Olympics, Motorola has chosen to get ahead of the South Korean giant by officially presenting its Razr 50 and 50 Ultra. The Lenovo brand’s two folding smartphones celebrate 20 years of the Razr range, offering larger screens while maintaining competitive prices.

Sold for €1,199 like its predecessor when it was launched, the Razr 50 Ultra is the most high-end version of the series. Featuring a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOled main screen, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 165 Hz thanks to LTPO technology, it stands out for its larger external display than on the model released in 2023, now 4 inches, surpassing its competitors and allowing the display of notifications and applications such as Spotify. On the photo side, the 50 Ultra is equipped with a 50 Mpx main sensor and a 50 Mpx telephoto lens with x2 zoom. A 32 Mpx selfie camera completes the device.

Under the hood, we find a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, coupled with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The 4000 mAh battery supports 45 W fast charging, 15 W wireless charging and 5 W reverse charging. While waiting to test it in our labs, we have already been able to try it.

The Razr 50, more affordable at €899, does not sacrifice the quality of the screen. The external screen goes from 1.5 to 3.6 inches with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Inside we have a 6.9 inch LTPO pOled screen with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This model is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 7300X processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The 4200 mAh battery here supports 30 W fast charging and 15 W wireless charging.

On the photo side, the Razr 50 is equipped with a 50 Mpx main sensor and a 13 Mpx ultra-wide angle/macro, accompanied by the same 32 Mpx selfie camera. Like its Ultra version, the Razr 50 features Google’s artificial intelligence, Gemini, as well as other in-house AI elements, under the Moto AI banner.

No AI functions, however, for the Moto G85 5G, a much more accessible smartphone that accompanies the launch of the Razr 50. This is positioned as an entry-level choice for users looking for a smartphone effective at a reasonable price. It is equipped with a 6.67-inch pOled screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Powered by a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor, coupled with 12 GB of RAM, it has 256 GB of storage expandable up to 1TB via MicroSD.

On the photo side, we find a 50 Mpx Sony LYT-600 main sensor with optical stabilization, an 8 Mpx ultra-wide angle, and a 32 Mpx selfie camera. The 5000 mAh battery, compatible with TurboPower 30W fast charging, should ensure good autonomy. The Moto G85 5G will be available in France during the month of July, with a starting price around €330, which could make it a good value for money device.
