YouTube is reportedly working to offer a sleep timer on its Android app.

Good news for those who tend to fall asleep while watching YouTube videosthe application could finally offer a timer standby mode.

A timer to stop YouTube videos

If you’re in the habit of listening to audiobooks or podcasts to fall asleep, you may already be using the timer functionality of some audio streaming apps. YouTube does not currently offer this sleep feature, but that could change if we are to believe the code of version 19.25.33 of the Android application which was dissected by Assemble Debug.

In this beta version, we can see several lines of code mentioning a “sleep timer”. They refer in particular to being able to choose the hours and/or minutes remaining until the playback of a video stops. Another line suggests that the timer will display as a notification. We also find the following sentence: “you can reset the timer or click Finish to continue watching”, suggesting that it will be possible to intervene at the end of the latter to continue listening to the current video.

The arrival of such a feature on YouTube would not be surprising as YouTube Music already offers it. Today it is necessary to use third-party applications on Android to take advantage of such functionality with the YouTube application. iPhone users can set a timer directly on iOS to stop media playback after a certain amount of time.

YouTube Music has a timer option that allows you to wait for a song to finish before stopping playback. Hopefully, YouTube has a similar option for videos, although it’s not mentioned in the Android app code.
