OnePlus announces “a breakthrough” for its smartphone batteries

OnePlus has unveiled its “Glacier Battery”, a technology that promises to improve the battery life and performance of its smartphones. No release date has been officially announced.

It’s a fear of our time: running out of battery on your cell phone. This contemporary phobia affects more than a third of French people according to a survey published last August by OpinionWay for the smartphone manufacturer Oppo.

But OnePlus seems to have the solution. According to the media Android Authority, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has just unveiled “Glacier Battery” technology, which promises significant improvements in the autonomy of its smartphones.

It was in a series of messages on the Chinese social network Weibo that the brand announced the news this Monday, June 17. This technology, developed with battery manufacturer CATL, promises “significantly improved” battery life and performance, OnePlus says.

“This is a breakthrough in battery life experience and the start of a new era,” says the phone maker.

Increase autonomy without sacrificing design

The new battery would thus alleviate “common user frustrations” such as the need to frequently charge their phone, anxiety related to low battery level and the need to constantly have an external battery.

At the moment, very little information is circulating regarding this technology. But Glacier batteries appear to be smaller and more energy dense than models currently on the market. Enough to increase the autonomy of smartphones, without sacrificing the aesthetics of devices with large batteries.

No release date has been officially announced yet. According to information from Digital Chat Station, the first product with this technology would be the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro. The phone, which will be unveiled on June 20, is said to have a 6,100 mAh battery capable of achieving a full charge in 30 minutes.
