JVMag – XREAL Beam Pro, a serious competitor to the Apple Vision Pro

A few months ago, we had the chance to offer you a complete test of augmented reality glasses. A device that can be worn every day and which allows you to display the content “of your choice” on a gigantic screen which is superimposed on your vision. You can find our full review of the product right here. During our test, we noted that glasses “simply” acted as a secondary screen and were losing a lot of interest among the general public. The XREAL company seems to have identified the problem since the manufacturer today revealed the XREAL Beam Pro! A unique device that is compatible with the entire range of glasses available, and which offers total autonomy.

We attended a private presentation of the product a few days ago, here is everything you need to know about it, in the simplest and most summarized way possible.

Before we begin, know that the idea behind this product was to offer something universal that is not limited to certain devices or requiring you to have to accumulate adapters.

XREAL Beam Pro to be autonomous

XREAL Beam Pro, a serious competitor to the Apple Vision Pro at a very low price

If until now, to use XREAL glasses you needed an external device (phone, consoles, PC/Mac), the Beam Pro completely changes the situation. Indeed, we are talking here about a completely autonomous device which resembles nothing more and nothing less than a smartphone. It has a touch screen, it runs Android with a small overlay from the manufacturer, and it offers you the possibility of accessing millions of applications completely independently. From Xbox Game Pass to Netflix through the Windows suite, everything is within your reach here. Note that the device will be sold through a WiFi model and a 5G mount.

The connection between the glasses and the Beam Pro is always established through a USB Type-C cable, the device offers two ports to offer the possibility of being charged. The XREAL Beam Pro also serves as an external battery. During the presentation, I asked the question of autonomy. It will easily be possible to watch an entire film without fear of running out of battery. Basically, you need three to four hours of power. In addition, as you have probably noticed, the Beam Pro has two cameras on its back. These sensors are placed to take 3D (spatial) photos and videos that you will be able to retrieve in your environment in augmented reality. A bit like what the giant Apple offers.

The icing on the cake is that the Beam Pro acts as a “pointer”, no need to use your device to navigate! Note again that the device still acts as an input source for a console, for example.

Very attractive price

This is certainly the real highlight of the show, the company XREAL is now marketing its Beam Pro at the price of $199! And that’s not all, if you already own a first generation Beam, through certain resellers, you will be able to benefit from a $50 discount.

Basically, the XREAL Beam Pro can be used like a tablet in smartphone format, so you have access to thousands of applications. All in a “spatial” environment. In addition to this new product, the manufacturer is also unveiling new glasses. Air 2 Ultra capable of tracking your hands. For the moment, I am not going to comment on this product as I have not yet had the chance to find out more. Hand tracking is always a complicated and difficult part to master.

Qualcomm
XREAL Beam Pro performance is powered by a Snapdragon® platform, with up to 8GB of system memory. The XREAL Beam Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon® Spatial Companion processor that allows multiple power-efficient applications to run simultaneously and handle the device’s complex spatial computing scenarios.

NVIDIA
The XREAL Beam Pro, powered by Android 14, delivers a best-in-class user experience thanks to NVIDIA CloudXR technology, which harnesses the power of NVIDIA RTX GPUs for high-performance rendering. This allows XREAL users to explore large, photorealistic datasets from anywhere on any XREAL device.

As you can see, this is more of a competitor to the Apple Vision Pro for its Mixed Reality part. A product that can stand out for its ease of use and above all its very competitive price. Expect a test from us during the month of July.
