The Elder Scrolls 6 is being talked about again through an interview with Todd Howard, with news that should greatly please Skyrim fans.

Announced for the very first time in 2018, The Elder Scrolls 6 is eagerly awaited. Bethesda seems to be taking all possible precautions to offer a worthy successor to the legendary Skyrim, if we are to believe good old Todd Howard.

As part of a recent interview with MrMattyPlays, the face of Bethesda returned to the many projects underway within the American giant. From Starfield’s roadmap to Fallout 5 to the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6, this is a treasure trove of information for fans. We know that the latter is the next game on the list of future productions to come out of the studio.

Bethesda is well aware of the overwhelming aura of Skyrim, which left its mark upon its release in 2011. The studio assured us of this for the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and Todd Howard confirmed it in this interview: The spirit of adventure and exploration will be very present in The Elder Scrolls 6. “ We know people are going to play it for a long time. A game like this is not limited to its content, it goes further than that. We see this with Skyrim and what people do on it even today. Even if it is popular, what will they do there when they return after stopping for a few years? “. The sixth opus is thus designed with the idea of offering it a certain longevity, which should please fans of the license.

A double-edged tribute?

What especially struck players in Skyrim was the randomness of certain encounters, and the fact that no two new adventures are the same. There is so much to do in Borderciel, and so many different character archetypes to create. This and the fact that the game is one of the most modded in history has helped the fifth installment of the license remain relevant, even 13 years after its release. So let’s hope for Todd Howard and Bethesda that The Elder Scrolls 6 will follow the same prestigious path. Remember, however, that Starfield experienced a mixed reception when it was released on September 6, 2023 on PC, Xbox Series and Xbox Game Pass.

Some have in fact criticized it for being a simple “Skyrim in space”, with Bethesda resting too much on its laurels, doing little to evolve the formula that made it famous. But the problem here was more the 1,500-odd planets, many of them simple procedural cut-and-paste, which dampened the sense of wonder and exploration. Given that The Elder Scrolls 6 will have a well-defined world to explore, we can bet that the formula will work better. However, we will have to wait for the game to be released in the more or less near future to be sure. On this point, Todd Howard unfortunately did not have any details to provide, to the great dismay of fans, the title having been teased six years ago already.
