Getting started with the Sonos Ace Bluetooth headset!

The Sonos Ace.

It was a surprise at first. The excellent connected speaker manufacturer Sonos has launched Ace Bluetooth headphones. On the other hand, it’s a fairly logical development; especially since this device is positioned at the high end at 499 francs for lossless wireless compatibility…

From the moment we unbox it, we are enthusiastic about the finish of this Sonos Ace which fits perfectly into the line of this manufacturer. The design is sober and aims to be rather pragmatic. Thus, different keys allow you to turn on the headphones, increase the volume or choose active noise cancellation.

Sonos Ace: Easy Getting Started

As soon as you connect to your Sonos application, the headphones are detected and paired with your smartphone. Obviously, I can’t help but check the quality of the Bluetooth: no LDAC on the Galaxy Ultra, as already explained in this note. This use requires a Qualcomm aptX Lossless compatible device. We will come back to this.

In the packaging, there is also a felt case in which a small magnetic compartment allows you to store the two cables, USB-C to USB-C and mini-jack to USB-C. Too bad the first one isn’t even a meter tall. A little short, especially since it is possible to use them for lossless transmission.

Start of the test: comfortable to wear

In the Sonos mobile application, you can access the headset battery level, noise management (active noise reduction or conscious mode, very successful), multipoint Bluetooth to pair two devices as well as various advanced settings like head tracking. We will come back to this.

On the head, the first impressions are quite impressive. The entire frequency range is well rendered and the sound is detailed, precise and warm. The headset is also very comfortable to wear and its large headphones are positioned well on the ears.

A first favorable assessment

It is probably this design associated with very effective noise reduction, which allows you to listen to your music in good conditions even in quite noisy environments, as we have already seen in this first part. of the test.

At this point, this headset produces an excellent impression aligned with its rather high price. So, is this price justified? What are the major strengths and limitations of this magnificent product? We will come back to this in the second part of the test after having gauged this device in different configurations…
