A terribly lively environment
It was during the Summer Game Fest that we were able to discover some preview gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and this presentation taught us a lot of things. A major characteristic of the Assassin’s Creed saga is the historical fidelity which was strongly illustrated during our preview. For example, some villagers worked forcibly under the yoke of corrupt samurai. The presentation showed the point of view of the two main characters, Yasuke and Naoe. One being a samurai, he has a higher social status. And this is why the locals greet him during his passaga, for example…
Due to their samurai and ninja nature, the two protagonists each have radically different gameplay. In fact, they seem to complement each other. Yasuke displays great brutality, armed with a mace or a katana. We were shown that the samurai will also be able to use a rifle (from the feudal era) and take advantage of certain elements of the decor to kill his enemies. Naoe’s gameplay, on the other hand, is more discreet. She is equipped with a grappling hook, can gain altitude and go to roofs to better assassinate her targets using kunai. He could be seen crawling in the tall grass to hide from his adversaries. It will even be possible to swim in bodies of water to avoid being spotted. This does not mean that she is a fragile ninja, quite the contrary! His grappling hook and tools allow him to opt for a particularly aggressive fighting style.
An open story
Between Yasuke and Naoe, it will be difficult to know which character will be most appreciated by players. Don’t worry, because once the first hours of play have passed, you will be able to choose which character you will play in your missions. Added to these new features is a season and weather system that players will be able to experience differently with each mission. If one of your missions takes place while it is snowing, you will have to be careful on the roofs: causing stalactites to fall can, for example, reveal your position.
Finally, side quests have been confirmed and should develop the story of each character in addition to the main plot. A very good news ! And for animal lovers, it will obviously be possible to pet the dogs that wander the streets. And that’s important!
