Hermine’s interest in cardboard began twenty years ago. It was an exhibition of cardboard furniture in the Dordogne that piqued his curiosity for the first time. After using numerous techniques and materials for his artistic practice, this former Fine Arts student decides to explore the infinite possibilities that cardboard offers.

It corresponded to a time when I needed to furnish myself, so I started out on my own.

Then a plastic arts teacher, she began making her first furniture during the school holidays. Then, little by little, passion gains ground and so does the desire to get started. She leaves teaching, produces cardboard objects and furniture full time and scours the craft exhibitions. To enrich her activity, she began giving lessons and holding workshops for children and adults.

During the confinement linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, parents ended up asking her to find out how to keep the children occupied at home. Hermine then suggests to Julien Giraud, her companion, to join his creative adventure. Trained in technical drawing, computer graphics and digitization, Julien spear The laboratory Mine de Carton, which offers creative cardboard kits to make at home.

Sharing the same workshop within a school, the couple exchange ideas, desires and projects, always around this simple and common material that is cardboard. “It’s a real four-handed job.”according to Julien.

For them, cardboard is a unique material that allows everyone’s creativity to be fully expressed. They found that working with cardboard particularly develops the imagination. “Cardboard offers a great wealth of customization” specifies Julien.

This is even more true in children. But in adults also, the cardboard hits the mark. “It’s still quite magical to start from cardboard, which is still a material that goes in the trash, and finally to create a piece of furniture, which we try to prepare as best we can, to make it really pretty, and above all usable on a daily basis. “Hermine tells us.

A prosaic material, cardboard can quite be sublimated. The activities of Hermine and Julien clearly demonstrate its immense potential. Accessible, recyclable and fully customizable, cardboard is Ultimately much more fun that we believe!
