Microsoft will not yet release a new AI feature for its computers next Tuesday. After being the subject of criticism over cybersecurity, the technology group will first test the ‘Recall’ search function with a small group, after which, in the event of positive feedback, it will deploy it more widely. new AI feature.
Recall captures the user’s screen every x seconds, making it easier to find web pages or closed files, for example. An example: a website with a beach and palm trees, without the user yet knowing the exact name of the page. By typing ‘beach and palm trees’ in Recall, the site can be found.
Cyber experts have expressed concerns about the security of the numerous screenshots, which are stored on individual users’ computers. This, they say, makes them attractive targets for cybercriminals. The functionality also turned out to be much less secure than that initially presented by Microsoft.

Microsoft previously defended itself by saying that users could only use the feature after going through additional security steps. Then, Microsoft decided not to enable Recall by default. In a new press release, the Windows publisher, among others, therefore declares that it wants to test the functionality first to guarantee its quality and security.
“After receiving feedback from our Windows Insider community, as we usually do, we plan to soon make a preview of Recall available on all Copilot+ PCs,” with Microsoft here referring to the new, more usage-focused computers of AI.
