Apple has just presented new MacBook Pros, equipped with the latest Apple Silicon chip. Shortly after their release, they were quickly tested on the dyno, with impressive results.
As a reminder, Apple offers several configurations for its new MacBooks. You have the choice between several variants, ranging from the simple M4, to the M4 Pro, or even to the M4 Max. The latter is the one which exploded all the scores, and which is now considered to be the most powerful Apple Silicon chip to date, offering up to 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores.
Benchmarks have already revealed record performances, but what about in practice? Journalists from The Verge, PetaPixel, CNET and TechCrunch are now sharing their feedback with us, after having tested the machine in depth.

A unanimous verdict: M4 Max impresses
First observation, the jump in performance is there, in particular for the M4 Max chip. As TechCrunch points out, the gain is striking compared to the M3 Max on applications like Premiere Pro. An opinion shared by PetaPixel, who believes that videographers equipped with a MacBook Pro M1 Max can rush into this update with their eyes closed.
Same story with The Verge, who is enthusiastic about the versatility of the M4 Max. The site claims that there simply is no best mobile workstation for video editing. Under DaVinci Resolve, the references are clear: only the Mac Studio M2 Ultra and a few muscular PC configurations manage to keep up.
Welcome improvements, a rising price
Beyond the numbers, testers appreciated certain additions, such as thenano-textured anti-glare screen. For The Verge, this extra billed at 170 euros by Apple is a game-changer for those who like to work outdoors. There webcam 12MP avec Desk View also seduces, despite apparently perfectible quality.
The only downside unanimously noted was the increase in prices. Count 4699 euros for the most powerful MacBook Pro M4 Max. The general opinion is clear: if you are a video or 3D pro and your MacBook Pro M1 (or a lower model) shows its limits, go for the M4 Max. But for others, a MacBook Air M3 will do the job, for example, at a much more affordable price. As a reminder, the MacBook Air M4 is planned for next year.
