In fact, alternative caps for AirPods Pro are not useless, quite the contrary. An Apple application helps identify the best tips for our ears.

When traveling, AirPods Pro headphones can be great traveling companions.

Purchasing these headphones was for me a return to in-ear headphones after more than 10 years of using headphones. Then the eternal question of caps arises. Until now, I had always kept the default caps on the earbuds, but Apple showed me the light.

A test to make the right choice

The 1st and 2nd generation AirPods Pro indeed offer interchangeable tips with several sizes offered in the box. But how do we know what size tip our ears correspond to?

Apple offers a very practical test directly integrated into the iPhone or iPad. Simply go to the Bluetooth settings and access the AirPods options (using the little blue “!” pictogram). At the very bottom of the page is a link to the tip fit test.

Apple’s app is able to determine whether or not the tips fit your ears. In this case, the default size did not match mine.

Suddenly, better insulation

In my case, I installed the slightly larger “L” tips on the AirPods Pro 2. The operation is a little scary at the time, you have to have a hand to remove the tip, but once that we have it, it’s quite simple.

And the difference was very quick when listening. The new tips allow the AirPods Pro to offer much more interesting sound isolation.

I suddenly find myself with noise reduction at the level of my old headphones, although they are much more bulky.

Perhaps this article knocks an open door and I am the only one to discover this function and the tip size adapted to my use. But I take the risk of ridicule by telling myself that there are many other people who probably use their AirPods without the experience being optimized.
