The phone application for Pixel smartphones is about to take a new step in call assistance. Google is currently developing an “AI Replies” feature that will automatically generate contextual responses using artificial intelligence.

After the suggested responses to text messages, Google should soon offer new AI-based functions within its Phone by Google application. They will be included in a future update.

According to the site 9to5Googlebeta version 153 of the Phone by Google application integrates the first elements of this new function. Internally called “dobby_AI”, it uses advanced language models to provide tailored responses to telephone conversations. The system will analyze the context of the call and generate relevant suggestions, allowing users to manage their communications without even having to pick up.

For obvious reasons of good management, the integration of artificial intelligence will require explicit activation by the user via a dedicated option. To avoid misunderstandings, Google also plans to display a warning regarding the generated nature of the responses, highlighting their possible inaccuracy.

Synergy with the Pixel ecosystem

This new feature is part of a broader set of call assistance features. It effectively complements existing tools such as filtering unwanted calls and managing waiting times. The technology will likely build on Gemini Nano, the onboard AI model of Pixel devices.
