As was revealed the other day, MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 8400 chipset will feature a large-core architecture similar to that used in the flagship Dimensity 9400 chipset.
Here’s what we know
According to the leaks, the Dimensity 8400 will feature an eight-core processor with a 1+3+4 configuration, manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm technology. The main ARM Cortex A725 core will run at over 3GHz, with 3 additional cores running at just under 3GHz. For less demanding tasks, 4 ARM Cortex-A720 cores will be used at around 2.0 GHz, which is an improvement over the Cortex A510 in the Dimensity 8300.
The GPU will be an Arm Immortalis G925, the same as in the Dimensity 9400, but its specifications will be reduced. SoC performance is expected to be optimized and final clock speeds are still subject to change. It is not yet clear which devices will use the Dimensity 8400, but it is speculated that it could be smartphones from the Redmi K80 series or the Oppo Reno 13.
