A “Club culture” label will now identify nightclubs which “actively support artistic creation and DJs” and work in the fight against sexist and sexual violence and harassment, the Minister of Culture announced on Friday.
“It’s important that we have this recognition,” declared Rachida Dati during a speech at the Mazette club, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, alongside the president of the Culture Nuit professional union, Aurélien Antonini.
“This label provides support, influence, attractiveness and protection,” she argued, adding that, if “the precise criteria” concerning this designation still had to be defined, it would allow clubs to be recognized “as cultural actors in their own right”.
This initiative must also “valorize the essential role of clubs in artistic discovery,” she stressed.
To obtain this label, these establishments will have to meet a certain number of criteria, linked in particular to public accessibility or parity in programming.
Awarded for a period of three years, it will allow the selected places to display the designation “Culture Clubs – places of artistic expression and celebration”. They will be listed in an online directory, accessible on the website of the Ministry of Culture.
