Would Dominique Farrugia be nostalgic for the 80s? In Bisbroadcast this Thursday June 6, 2024 at 9:25 p.m. on TMC, the ex-comedian from Les Nuls once again takes on the director’s hat four years later Marquis. Here he tries his hand at time travel via a comedy that flirts with the fantastic, carried by the explosive duo: Franck Dubosc and Kad Merad. The pitch? Patrice and Éric, two high school friends, took different paths. One is a prominent gynecologist who leads a peaceful life. The other indulges in more frivolities and lives to the rhythm of stories with no future. But one fine day, during a drunken evening, the two friends fall down the stairs before being mysteriously propelled back to 1986, in their bodies of spotty 17-year-old teenagers. The opportunity for them to rediscover their crazy youth…

A nostalgia bomb

Bis is a declaration of love to the 80s. Terminator from James Cameron to the cult trilogy Back to the future, Dominique Farrugia enjoys hiding numerous nods to the films that marked the decade. More surprisingly, the ex-member of Les Nuls quotes Francis by Roman Polanski as a Source of inspiration for the sets of Bis... “It was first a question of stripping the current streets of elements that no longer have anything to do with 1986. Then of bringing out the buses from that era, of recreating street furniture from then… But we also had to not lose from the point of view that the 80s were a much less consumerist era than today” he explains.

A slight anachronism

In addition to references to the 7th Art, Bis teems with details and events that directly echo this emblematic era in the collective imagination. Take the use of the Walkman, for example, or the separation of the French group Telephone in 1986, mentioned several times during the film. Nevertheless, early fans of the Jean-Louis Aubert and Louis Bertignac gang will certainly have spotted this subtle anachronism which has crept into the feature film! Indeed, the character of Loïc learns with great regret of the dislocation of Telephone at the time of the Bac results, on June 23, 1986. In reality, the four musicians ended their collaboration two months earlier, on April 21, 1986, at great dismay of rock fans.
