Set on a planet Earth, after a great and mysterious cataclysm, “Horizon Zero Dawn” was released on PlayStation 4 in 2017. A variant for Windows PC appeared in 2020. This inaugural episode, which benefited from a sequel (and not end) of quality in 2022, “Horizon Forbidden West”, is back on PS5 and PC with the mention “remastered”. Narratively, it is the same game, but with the benefit of enhanced graphics and animations and some refinements linked to the gameplay.
Before installing and practicing this new version (on PS5), the question we immediately asked ourselves was: will this really be seen? The answer was immediately and clearly obvious: yes, clearly. “Horizon Zero Dawn” is much more beautiful, also richer in terms of animations and staging. It now plays in the same technical league as its sequel. Did he really need it? Not necessarily given the already very high overall quality of 2017’s “Zero Dawn”.
SO? If you like narratively rich single-player games and have missed the franchise, no hesitation: of the two versions, you have to take the better one. On the other hand, if you have already completed this first chapter of the saga and there is no desire to return to it, the sole benefit of replastering may seem insufficient. Even if Sony offers a low migration price for owners of the PS4 version (around ten francs).
We also note that everything is done to ensure a smooth transition with the possibility of importing your backups into the new version.
For our part, although we have reached the end of the two eras, the improved spectacle immediately dazzled us. And as we had somewhat forgotten how well-constructed “Zero Dawn” was narratively, the desire to persist quickly manifested itself. It must be said that of all types of video games, single-player adventure games with high added narrative value remain our favorite area.
“Horizon Zero Dawn”, developed by Gorilla Games, redesign managed by Nixxes. A player. Available on PC and PS5.
