All of our lives have an online part. It often concerns private elements that would be dangerous to see in the wrong hands, such as banking, medical or other data. All digital services offer to protect our accounts and data behind passwords and other systems but most of the time, people don’t know how to do it well or seem to be lazy. Consequently, a majority of Internet users are at risk of being fooled by pirates.
The game
“Space Shelter” is a short game available in French produced by Euroconsumers and Google to prepare the general public with the basics of cybersecurity. It places the player in the shoes of an astronaut who says he meets various safety instructions in order to reach a space station. He will therefore have to create a strong password to protect the ship.
Subsequently, it will have to use two-factor authentications to properly preserve the vehicle and power the shields. Once it has successfully completed these two missions, it will be able to cross the asteroid field without risking exploding on contact with a celestial body. If this happens, they will instead be asked questions about phishing attempts, among other things. Finally, he will have to prove that he can dock with the station by responding by showing that he has learned about cybersecurity.
The game is therefore an experience which does not last very long (approximately 5 to 10 minutes) but which evokes often forgotten basics in terms of computer security.
When we know that the password most often used is “1234”, this type of short fun experience is a good way to remind people of good practices to adopt in creating passwords, among other things.
