Very angry, Decroix condemns the “cowardly attack” on Sonko’s convoy

In a message marked by firmness, Mamadou Diop Decroix denounces the attack on the convoy of Ousmane Sonko, head of the Pastef coalition list and Prime Minister, during the electoral campaign.

Outraged by this “cowardly aggression”, he expressed his support for the injured, in particular for President Malick Gakou, and called on the authorities on the urgent need to preserve the peace and stability of the country. For Decroix, only unanimous mobilization against violence will prevent malicious intentions from interfering in the democratic process in view of the elections on November 17.

“I understood that the attacks and other destruction noted in Dakar would be the first and last of this campaign. But it is with anger and indignation that I learn of the cowardly attack on the convoy of the head of the coalition list Pastef and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. We condemn it and express our compassion and solidarity to the injured, in particular President Malick Gakou with whom I spoke during the day, and wish them a speedy recovery. A serious question arises: who doesn’t want this election?

The State is strongly challenged because confusion is very easy to create if we let it happen and it is in the confusion that the fishermen in troubled waters take action to broaden the fronts for objectives which have nothing to do with the immediate and long-term interests of our people. No Senegalese concerned with the peace and stability of the country, whether in the opposition or in power or without political roots, can approve of this sinister enterprise.

Beyond the lists and their competition, a vast anti-violence movement (verbal or physical) will have to emerge to stem the evil before it takes on other dimensions.
All those, from whatever side they are, who look to November 17 with confidence in their comfortable victory cannot have any interest in sabotaging the process. So let’s root out the evil before it’s too late. »
