An unexpected power over attention

Researchers from Yangzhou University in China conducted a study to assess the impact of mobile games on young adults’ attention. They recruited 72 students who had played video games less than two hours per week over the past six months. These participants were divided into two groups: one played a multiplayer fighting game called Honors of Kings, while the other played a card game called _Happy Poker.

Before and after a 60-minute gaming session, participants’ attentional abilities were measured using the Attention Network Test. This tool allows you to evaluate the speed and accuracy of information processing. The results revealed that Honors of Kings players significantly improved their “alert network,” a crucial aspect of attention. Conversely, this phenomenon did not appear among _Happy Poker players.
