Xiaomi unveils its new Poco F6 and F6 Pro dedicated to gamers

This Thursday, Xiaomi took advantage of an extraordinary event held in Dubai to unveil in detail the new phones from its Poco brand.

A few days ago, Poco, one of the brands owned by smartphone giant Xiaomi, revealed its two new flagship phones: the Poco F6 and the Poco F6 Pro. All that remained was to wait for the official presentation, scheduled for May 23. For the first time, the brand met us at the Dubai Exposition Center in the Arab megalopolis.

Thus, the event was an opportunity for journalists, influencers and invited fans to learn more about Poco’s new flagship phone, the F6 Pro (and the cheaper model, the Poco F6). The brand continues its ambition to offer quality smartphones aimed at gamers, and it is clear that the technical sheet is attractive.

First of all, we will note a sudden change in design for the device. Its rear side is thus equipped with a large block, which takes up the entire width of the device, and on which we can find the four photo modules. In addition, we will note a nice marbled effect for the back of the device, both on the white color and on the black. In the words of Angus Ng, the head of marketing at Poco, the Poco F6 Pro is inspired by the Moon.

In terms of technical specifications, the Pro model upgrades to the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm and becomes, at the same time, the first smartphone to offer it. More powerful, certainly, but above all boosted with AI thanks to the Qualcomm AI Engine. And for the first time, it has a 16GB RAM configuration accompanied by 1TB storage. It’s very simple, today, no one offers such high RAM on the market, except the OnePlus 12.

Such a technical sheet will, undoubtedly, interest a certain segment of the population: that of mobile gamers. There are numerous integrations that significantly improve gameplay, including WildBoost optimization, which provides faster image loading for smoother gameplay and better touchscreen response. Already present on the Poco F5 Pro, LiquidCool technology moves to its fourth version to guarantee three times more efficient cooling during prolonged gaming sessions. Through a partnership with PUBG Mobile, Poco announces that its F6s are the first smartphones in the world to offer a 120FPS mode.

Equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, the Poco F6 Pro charges with an included 120W adapter, ensuring a full charge in just 19 minutes. And if you reach 1% battery remaining, Poco has developed Hibernation mode, guaranteeing up to 30 minutes of call time.

Thanks to Qualcomm’s AI chip, the Poco F6 introduces important new features linked to artificial intelligence. Thus, the screen automatically rotates according to the orientation of the user’s face and locks instantly as soon as the phone is placed down and it no longer detects the face. Finally, it has in-air control features to control your phone without touching it, if your hands are dirty for example. Poco also announces that its screen reacts better when your hands are wet.

But that’s not all, since it is also boosted with AI in terms of photos. Diversion of faces, erasing elements in a photo, enlarging a photo by extending the environment, live subtitling in videos and during calls, searching for intelligent photos… It’s very simple, Poco takes the AI train is at full speed and seems to want to compete with the best.

Finally, on the photography side, the F6 Pro stands out, according to Poco, with a high-performance burst mode that can recover up to 50 images in a single shot thanks to Burst Shot Pro mode. An algorithm also perfects photos taken at night. Called the Ultra Night Algorithm, it captures clear, bright images with very high color accuracy enabled by artificial intelligence.

A Poco F6 for the average gamer

Compared to its predecessor, the F5, the Poco F6 marks a clear advance in performance thanks, again, to a more powerful SoC. We move to the brand new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip from Qualcomm and become, at the same time, the first smartphone to embed it. This chip is boosted by 8GB or 12GB RAM. The model can, for the first time, have 512GB of storage, whereas it was previously limited to 256GB. If it will also be able to run certain games, it is clear that the Poco F6 will struggle more with the biggest games than its Pro leaning.

In terms of design, we remain more or less faithful to what the Poco F5 offered, with these three large photo sensors at the back, which are however more prominent on this Poco F6. Poco is also announcing a new type of screen, called CrystalRes, which promises better brightness, a better image refresh rate and even better shock resistance.

The screen displays a resolution of 1.5K and an average in-game refresh rate of almost 60FPS. LiquidCool 4.0 technology is also present on this Poco F6.

A few years ago, Angus Ng announced that “the camera was never Poco’s priority”. In Dubai, he corrected himself, announcing that they still wanted to offer a quality camera. “Featuring a 50-megapixel triple camera, OIS and the new Sony IMX882 sensor, the POCO F6 lets in more light, improving the quality of photos indoors and outdoors”, announces Poco. A new Portrait function with background blurring has appeared. The video is finally compatible with HDR10+.

Rather surprisingly, this F6 has compatibility with Bluetooth 5.4, where the Pro model only works with 5.3. On the other hand, it is not compatible with WiFi 7, while the Poco F6 Pro is.

The new Poco F6 and F6 Pro are already available from several resellers. The Poco F6 comes in three colors, namely Classic Black, Land Green and Titanium Sparkle and is sold from €499.99. For its part, the Poco F6 Pro is offered in black or white. It will be priced at €579.99.

Poco’s very first tablet

The icing on the cake, to conclude his conference, Angus Ng unveiled the first Poco-branded tablet, the Poco Pad. Concretely, it is a Redmi Pad Pro which sports the Poco brand. It has a 12.1″ screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. To allow the player to play in optimal conditions, it has a Snapdragon 7s Gen2 SoC and a basic RAM of 8GB.

For those who prefer to work, the Poco Pad allows you to cast the screen of your Poco F6 directly onto your tablet. As with Apple, it is possible to take a photo with your phone so that it instantly appears in a note. It also has a colossal 10,000mAh battery.

The brand offers accessories to improve the experience: the Poco Pad Keyboard, the Poco Smart Pen and the Poco Pad Cover.

The Poco Pad is already available and is sold at €329.99.
