Bing and Copilot are down and taking Qwant, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia with them

Microsoft’s search engine and its Copilot seem to have suffered a serious outage for several hours. A problematic damage since it also brings to their knees alternative search engines, such as Qwant and DuckDuckGo, which rely on Bing to provide their results.

If you are a fan of search engines Qwant, DuckDuckGo or Ecosia, you may not be able to do much this morning. These search engines seem to be experiencing serious slowdowns, in some cases going so far as to display an error to display the results of a search.

Don’t worry, it’s not coming from you. These search engines are in reality victims, through a snowball effect, of a breakdown which would a priori affect Microsoft’s servers. Bing, the Redmond firm’s search engine has been inaccessible to certain users for several hours, but it seems that other services are also affected. This is particularly the case for Copilotwhose page is currently inaccessible, or even Bing Image CreatorMicrosoft’s AI-powered imaging module.

DuckDuckGo, Qwant and Ecosia inaccessible because of Bing

Why are several alternative search engines in trouble at the same time? Quite simply because to provide the results of your searches, they all rely, at least in part, on the results provided by Bing, Microsoft’s search engine. And, surprise, Bing seems to have been experiencing some difficulties since around 7:30 this morning. The DownDetector platform, which is responsible for listing the failures of major Web services, also makes it possible to realize this domino effect. On the site’s home page, we can see very clearly that the Bing outage brought other services in its wake, including DuckDuckGo.

On Twitter / X, Qwant communicated officially, citing a simple “technical problem” from one of their partners. Ecosia and DuckDuckGo also shared a tweet mentioning difficulties among some users in accessing search results.

For the moment, no official information regarding this Bing outage has been communicated by Microsoft. This article will be updated as soon as new information becomes known.
