by the screenwriter of Indes Fourbes (Delcourt)

Historical account based on the correspondence of a certain Knight of Saint Sauveur, The Shadow of Lights features a libertine character as colorful as he is Machiavellian from the 18th century in the Court of . In this second volume, the man flees his debts in the company of his Iroquois and his faithful valet, heading for the forest of Canada or New France! And even there, Saint-Sauveur will surpass himself in manipulations to try to rebuild himself.

On a scenario ofAlain Ayroleswho delivered the masterpiece of Les Indes Fourbes in 2019, L’ombre des Lumières continues its epistolary adventure, punctuated by the exchanges received or emitted by Saint-Sauveur and those close to him. The idea is original and fun to follow but the narration is also impacted and slowed down. The drawing of Richard Guérineau is pleasant to read, without really succeeding in provoking emotion.

The fact remains that this second album of The Shadow of Lights does not lack interest despite the absence of the surprise effect of the first volume. We bet that the third episode will conclude this story with panache.

Excerpt from volume 1:

Editor’s summary:

Ayroles and Guérineau continue to paint with panache the frightening portrait of an 18th century libertine. Adventures and shenanigans continue in the exotic lands of New France, where the savage is not who we think.
Flanked by the Iroquois Adario and his philosopher valet, Saint-Sauveur arrives in New France, where a new bet will allow him to deploy his disastrous talents. But we don’t play with hearts with impunity, and the machinations of the libertine will turn into disaster. Exchanging his silk stockings for buckskin leggings, the knight will have to wander the woods and banish his prejudices: the Savages have wit!
