Organized from October 7 to 9 in by the City, the Explor’Science festival welcomes former astronaut Philippe Perrin. The latter wants to raise awareness among young people about the environment to respond to the challenges of global warming.

It is an event that is gaining momentum in the Carcassonne landscape. The Explor’Science festival, which takes place over three days in Carcassonne, welcomed astronaut Philippe Perrin this Tuesday, October 8 as part of the day dedicated to schools. The 9the French people who have spent time in space have come to raise awareness of ecology and climate change, their real hobby horse in recent years: “They have the chance during this day to see various things. Personally, I am an engineer specializing in energy issues. Concerning global warming, there are things that we cannot control and others, with science, that we can change”, he specifies. And to add quite optimistically: “It is science that can get us out of this problem.”

As a reminder, Philippe Perrin participated in the space shuttle Endeavor mission in 2002, during which he carried out several spacewalks to participate in the assembly of the international space station. His other objective during this day in Carcassonne is to talk with new generations about his journey and in particular his adventures as an astronaut. But how was he able to exercise this profession reserved for a handful of people? A look back at his life journey: “I grew up in a loving family and had good teachers during my childhood and adolescence. I had the chance to read a lot at a time when social networks did not yet exist. I also tended to riding a bike a lot when I was younger A taste for adventure Obviously, I was very lucky but I was able to have this experience because they knew how to give it to me. is over 20 years old now I lead conferences and that also suits me very well, especially getting involved with young people.” And to conclude: “A society that does not invest in young people is a society that is doing badly.”

The Explor’Science festival ends this Wednesday, October 9 with a day reserved for the general public. Between 2,200 and 2,300 people registered.
