Headphones screwed on your ears, phone in your pocket, you pass under a tunnel and your music suddenly cuts out due to lack of access to 4G. If this situation has ever happened to you, you might be happy to know that Spotify has a solution for you. In a press release published on October 3, the company announced the arrival of its new feature: a playlist “Autosave ».

More than 200 titles in cache

As Engadget explains, this tool enriches the offline functionalities already present in Spotify. Until now, to have access to your music without a connection, you had to remember to manually download one of your playlists. From now on, Spotify will do this on its own by caching the latest tracks on your queue or those you have just listened to, then storing them in a dedicated playlist.

Accessible only to premium users, the playlist “Autosave» automatically appears on the home tab as soon as your phone goes offline. With more than 200 titles in our case, the playlist can be filtered by genre and offers all the classic features of manually created playlists (random listening, adding to playlists, waiting list management, etc.). Only access to the lyrics will not be available. Spotify promises that the playlist “evolves as you listen so that you always have something new on hand ».

To ensure that the functionality is activated on your mobile, go to the “Settings and privacy» (by clicking on your profile photo) and click on “Storage» (iOS) or «Data saving and offline mode» (Android). Make sure the “Offline listening» (iOS) or «Offline access» (Android) is activated.

You can then test the functionality by switching your mobile to airplane mode. The playlist should appear on the “Home” tab. If this is not the case, make sure your application is up to date and that you have listened to at least 5 different songs in the last few days. And if you want to always have the playlist on hand, and not just when you go offline, you can easily add it to your catalog using the little “+” button.
