Beats Solo 4: we almost forgot about it

In the early 2010s, listening to music on your smartphone or iPod was mainly done with headphones. And for those who had headphones – still not very common at the time – many were Beats, a real phenomenon of the last decade.

Meanwhile, Apple bought Beats for $3 billion in 2014, and kept the overall brand identity, while adding some convenient features found on AirPods. After the Beats Solo 3 Wireless released in 2016, Apple is finally renewing the mid-range headset. The only design changes that we can notice are the transition from glossy to matte, but above all the transition to USB-C, which is slowly starting to become widespread on Apple products. Missing more than the AirPods Max…

Otherwise, it’s Beats, so few surprises. We still have this colored plastic frame, foldable and adjustable length. The physical buttons on each side have become an exception, but might convince some who don’t like the gesture navigation of most models today.

Important reminder: this is not a headset that covers the ears, but which simply sits on them. Thus, the product is compact and light (217 grams), but tends to let a little sound escape, losing slightly in sound quality and comfort.

We move to Bluetooth 5.3, which allows for fast connection and stability over long distances, but also when connecting to several devices simultaneously. Unfortunately, no active noise reduction. However, we regularly find them in headphones of this price.

Who says Beats headphones, says Apple, says intelligent functions reserved for products from the Cupertino brand, such as Spatial Audio, quick switching between devices, or even location in the Locate application. On the other hand, no “Ear Detection”, which stops the music when you remove the headphones.

With 8 years of difference between Solo 3 and Solo 4, we have the right to expect a fairly massive difference in sound quality. The test is in progress, it will be released soon on JV TECH.

Beats Solo 4 price and release date

Officially announced, no need to wait before you can order the Beats Solo 4. On the other hand, it will not be available only on May 9, or next week. For the price, count on €229.95, with the choice between 3 colors : black, pastel pink, and slate blue.
