Among the most notable video game franchises in their history, we can easily cite Batman: Arkham. The license started by Rocksteady in 2009 with Asylum ended in style with the title Arkham Knights in 2015. A 6-year adventure that revolutionized the superhero gaming genre and has no equal, at least in this DC Comics universe. Nothing beats a good old Batman: Arkham How we like them, don’t we? Meta understood the problem well. This is why the firm has just announced the long-awaited return of the franchise with a new original opus, set in the same universe. In addition to being unexpected news, it is also pleasing, because it promises that the work will indeed be canon to the original franchise.

But there is a catch: the next Batman Arkham will only be a VR exclusive for Meta Quest headsets. There is no question here of having the game on PlayStation, Xbox or even PC, Batman: Arkham Shadow is a virtual reality-only game that players will be able to purchase through the Meta store. This is a disappointment for fans of the license, except for those who own a VR headset from the brand.

Indeed, Meta was sorely lacking in exclusives to really stand out from the crowd of existing VR devices. Its Quest 3 is struggling to find its audience with a relatively higher price range than its predecessor and not necessarily more exclusives. This arrival will therefore allow it to enjoy a small renaissance and, who knows, generate additional sales a few months – or even years – after its release.
Because no, we don’t know when the game Batman: Arkham Shadow will be available. The only trailer shared doesn’t show us any gameplay. Geoff Keighley, who presents the Summer Game Fest, warns us that the first real images of the game will be revealed during the big ceremony and that we will therefore have to be patient. Summer Game Fest will begin on June 7 in the spotlight of Los Angeles. We simply hope that in terms of lifespan the game will exceed the small hour of Batman: Arkham VR. As such, we were more at a demo stage than a real opus.
