Just a week ago, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz fought one of the most dramatic tennis duels of the year in the final in Beijing – with a bitter outcome for Sinner, who had to admit defeat. Another reunion was looming in Shanghai, this time in the semi-finals. But nothing comes of it. Alcaraz failed spectacularly and surprisingly in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 tournament.
The Spanish world number three had to admit defeat to the Czech Tomas Machac 6:7 (5), 5:7. This was a huge success for Machac, who is ranked 33rd in the world. The Czech showed once again that he likes the big names. This year, the up-and-coming 23-year-old already won against Novak Djokovic at the tournament in Geneva.

Jannik Sinner will be warned when he meets the Czech in the semi-finals on Saturday. Nevertheless, the Sesto superstar goes into the race as the favorite. On Thursday, Sinner delivered a quarter-final gala and literally swept Daniil Medvedev, fifth in the world rankings, off the field in just over an hour. It is not yet known when the match against surprise man Machac will take place on Saturday.
