The Bern-Solothurn regional transport (RBS) had to stop rail traffic again on the busy route between Bern and Worblaufen on Friday. Until the end of operations, travelers had to switch to buses.

RBS announced this on Friday. The reason was an operational disruption that occurred on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The technical disruptions are related to night work that was carried out at the RBS signal box in Bern last weekend.

Interlocking problems paralyze traffic

The signal box – the oldest on the RBS – dates from 1965. It will be replaced when the new RBS station is built in 2029.

The disruption in morning traffic was initially resolved on Friday. But after operations normalized, rail traffic between Worblaufen and Bern had to be stopped again.

From Worblaufen the trains run as usual in all directions.

The route between Bern and Worblaufen is one of the busiest in the Swiss railway network. A train leaves every 90 seconds.

Construction work is making the situation worse

Since mid-June, the route has only been able to operate on a single track due to construction work on the new RBS train station in Bern. Disruptions to the railway system have a correspondingly significant impact, as the RBS wrote. The aim is to be able to resume orderly rail operations as quickly as possible.
