The exploits of Patrick Rahmen’s men against Galatasaray in the play-offs seem a long way off. After a 3-0 loss at home against Aston Villa, YB took a lesson on Barça’s pitch.

A goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 8th minute of play transformed an already complicated task into an almost impossible mission. Prodigy Lamine Yamal was behind a move that was far too quick for the Bernese rearguard, and Lewandowski only had to push the ball into the back of Marvin Keller’s net after a strike that was a little too uncrossed from Raphinha.

The reigning Swiss champions had an opportunity to equalize, at the half-hour mark, but Ebrima Colley, who inherited the leather in an ideal position, failed to target his attempt. As a punishment, the Blaugrana then flew away in the space of three minutes thanks to two goals scored from set pieces (34th, 37th).

Red Lantern

Returning from the locker room, Lewandowski scored his personal double from a corner (51st), taking advantage of a much too timid marking from Young Boys. An autogoal from Mohamed Ali Camara (81st) ended the complicated evening for the Bernese.

With 0 points in two matches and no goals scored, Young Boys are bottom of the Champions League. To hope to maintain hope of competing in the play-offs to reach the round of 16, YB will have to collect points. It will still be difficult against Inter Milan, who will travel to Wankdorf on Wednesday October 23.
