Why “Spring Breakers” wasn’t as extreme as she thought

Selena Gomez has already filmed a number of films and series in Hollywood – after all, she has been in front of the camera since she was a child. But she remembers one film particularly fondly: “Spring Breakers” – even though she felt uncomfortable during filming! The whole story is now…

Selena Gomez: “I felt protected”

“Hi, girls!” is the first thing Selena Gomez says when she is shown scenes from “Spring Breakers” (2012) in an interview with “Vanity Fair”.

Your “girls”? These are Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine, with whom she was in front of the camera. “All of the girls were older than me. I felt very protected. Especially because it was such a drastic change from what I was used to.” Of course, Selena is playing on hers Disney-Saidt as Alex Russo in “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Comes with a contract at Disney – that’s the open one Secret – a clean image that must be maintained at all costs. How difficult this is for adolescent women is shown by numerous examples such as Miley Cyrus or Bella Thorne, who did everything they could to help her after their time at the mouse channel to leave the child-friendly image behind.

But Selena weighs it down: “It wasn’t as drastic as I thought it would be.” Her role, Selena believes, was very similar to her at the time. She always had to be careful about how she presented herself for children to watch. “Spring Breakers” was “a big one Relief“, she says.

Streame Selena Gomez in “Spring Breakers”

But there were also moments in front of the camera in which she felt uncomfortable. “Especially when two guys had to dance closely with me when I was only wearing a bikini. I then said that I wasn’t comfortable with it and the girls then decided to stand right next to me – and they guys were then next to them.” Such small gestures helped her a lot.

Maybe, or perhaps because of that, she still thinks back fondly on that time.

“To this day, this is one of my favorite projects I’ve been a part of,” Selena explains. And admits: “Believe it or don’t believe it, it was my mother’s idea.” So without mom Mandy Teefey (who was also her manager at the time), she wouldn’t have ended up in the iconic thriller, which – despite being released in 2012 – still delights film audiences to this day.

How did this come about? Selena and her mom watched films by “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine together. “He was a great director, I would do anything to work with him again.” Maybe it will even work! Because: “We are still in contact.”

Selena reveals a secret

And then the actress reveals a long-held secret! Her Bathroom monologuewhy everyone in town is feeling bad (if you know, you know) was improvised! “Harmony told me, describe where you grew up and then describe why you wanted to leave there.”

Selena was born in the slightly desolate Texas industrial town of Grand Prairie. Her mother became pregnant with Selena when she was 16. “She wanted to show me the world, I spoke a little for her,” she explains Improvisation further.

She actually never wanted to leave Texas, “but if I come back now, I’ll get one Schockwhat my life could have been like. That doesn’t mean it was bad – just very different.”

It’s been a long time, but the film still has a large fan base and continues to gain new ones. Sure, the thriller, which was produced by the hit studio A24, simply has one gripping storyline.
