Antwerp lost to Anderlecht last night (1-0). Toby Alderweireld was particularly scandalized by the state of the pitch.
The new pitch placed by Anderlecht is far from resolving the problems deplored for weeks. Yesterday, the playing area once again appeared very uneven and quite treacherous for the players, who no longer counted the large clods of earth that had come loose.
Toby Alderweireld fumed. After the trip to Beerschot, which also announced investment in laying a new lawn, the former Red Devil is sounding the alarm. “Twice in a row on such pitches! It’s unheard of. And afterwards, we wonder why people don’t watch Belgian football.”
Unworthy of a first division club?
The defender has seen others during his career. But he is particularly alarmist: “How do you want to play on that? Especially as a defender. I was more concerned with not slipping or tripping over a pile of sand. We are not a team of combat.”
-He saw it above all as a disadvantage for theAntwerp. “We are a ball-playing team, but here you can’t develop your game.”
Alderweireld was still willing to approach the game as such. “We had two clear chances in the first half, one of which should have been converted into a goal. But hey, they still have to come to us, and with our crowd behind us…”. Suffice to say that Anderlecht will be warmly received at Bosuil.
