POLITICS – Discussion remains, in times of crisis, the best way to resolve conflicts. Since the socialists isolated themselves from the rest of the left by refusing to vote on the first motion of censure against the Bayrou government, the vital prognosis of the New Popular Front seems a little more committed every day. The deputies continue to call for it, but the left alliance is faltering, cornered under the weight of tactical and strategic, more than programmatic, disagreements.
Why politicians do not dare to tackle the living conditions of retirees
In an attempt to put oil in the wheels, La France insoumise announced this Wednesday, January 22 that it will soon propose to its allies “bilateral meetings”. Unlike the interviews which, until then, were mainly done with four people, the idea this time is to confront each left-wing parliamentary group with its responsibilities. The Insoumis say they want to do it “with clarity, consistency and respect for the word given”. To take another path would be “open the royal road to the National Rally”write the Mélenchonists in their press release.
The socialists who did not vote for the motion of censure are accused of having allowed the government to “continue its work of destruction”, registering like this “in serious rupture” with the NFP. The media outings of several ministers in recent days (Bruno Retailleau who promises to ” to touch “ to the AME in particular) reinforce the Insoumis in their position. “Lonely choice”lack of “consultation”, “crude trap” concessions obtained… They do not skimp on words to overwhelm the socialists.
“Left opposition in the constituencies”
Is a return to serene and peaceful relationships even possible? Questioned by parliamentary journalists on January 22, Boris Vallaud reiterated his attachment to the NFP: “I believe in the unity of the left”. A few days ago, the president of the PS group had already explained that he did not want “change alliance or camp”. “We remain in opposition”he assured.
But those close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon are demanding action. The vote on the budget will, according to them, constitute “the moment of truth”. “If socialist deputies were to refuse again to censor the government of François Bayrou, they would definitively break with the New Popular Front. They would confirm a change of alliance and would no longer be able to represent the left opposition in their constituencies”they say.
-For the moment, the presidents of the three other left-wing groups (Boris Vallaud for the PS, Cyrielle Chatelain for the Ecologists and André Chassaigne for the GDR) have not reacted to this request for “bilateral meetings”. In front of several journalists, the boss of the green group still confirmed that it was necessary “return instances of dialogue” oh be you NFP. « Unity is essential, we must work to strengthen it, consolidate it, and not try to blow it up”she explained, refusing however to allow this to be done “by press releases”. The battle on the left is not over.
