The conference of presidents of the National Assembly met yesterday, Tuesday January 14, following the meeting of the parliamentary representation office. The imminent lifting of Farba Ngom’s parliamentary immunity is envisaged with the establishment of the ad-hoc Commission followed by the plenary which will decide the fate of the Agnams deputy. According to MP Amadou Ba from Pastef, it is on Thursday January 17 that the ad hoc committee will be formed and its 11 members will be appointed (9 Pastef MPs, 1 from Takku Wallu and 1 from the non-registered group. And on Friday at 11:00 a.m., “the plenary charged solely, by a Resolution, with ratifying the designation of the 11 members of the ad hoc Commission will be convened. And the parliamentarian will continue: “It is only”. afterwards, that the said Commission will decide on its timetable, examine the request for lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the deputy Farba Ngom which it can hear, him directly, or the deputy he has designated to represent him and examine and assess the charges which are alleged against him”. And it is only after, “Once the ad hoc Commission completes its investigation, that the conclusions of its work will be resubmitted to the plenary to rule definitively on the lifting of parliamentary immunity. by Farba Ngom “.
According to article 52 of the internal regulations of the national assembly, “an ad hoc committee of eleven is formed for each request for lifting the parliamentary immunity of a deputy or for each request for suspension of proceedings already initiated. (11) members appointed according to the procedure provided for in article 34”. The Commission must hear the interested MP, who may choose one of his colleagues as defender. Also, during the debates opened by the National Assembly, in plenary session, on questions of immunity, only the President, the Rapporteur of the Commission, the Government, the deputy or his defender and a speaker against can speak.
