The City of Drummondville and the MRC of Drummond are proud to highlight sporting excellence by announcing the return of the Support Program for Young Athletes in Amateur Sports! Suggested for a 37e year and with a total budget of $25,000, this program celebrates the performances of local young people and contributes to their progress through scholarships.
New criteria and increased financial assistance for winners
The costs associated with practicing sports are often high and this program will provide even more concrete support for the progress of eligible athletes. Based on learnings from recent years, particularly on the needs of athletes and their families, the organizing committee reviewed the eligibility criteria. These new criteria will make it possible to offer more substantial support to selected athletes, thus strengthening their progress and success.
As a result, certain criteria, such as those linked to age and the Accès-loisirs card, have been removed. Others, such as the obligations of residence and dates to be respected, will remain. Then, certain requests for recognition were added. To be eligible for the program, the athlete must:
- Complete the online form between January 15 and January 1is mars 2025;
- Reside in one or other of the 18 municipalities of the MRC of Drummond;
- Transmit its results for the reference period, which is from January 1 to December 31, 2024;
- Play a sport recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Education;
- Be part of at least one of the following categories: be carded by Sport Canada, be identified “Excellence”, “Elite” or “Newcomers” by the Ministry of Education or play on the Canadian or American university circuit.
People meeting the eligibility criteria can submit their application by visiting drummondville.ca/athletes.
The evaluation of applications will be carried out in early spring. The winners will receive an invitation to participate in the scholarship award ceremony which will take place on June 18 at the Maison des arts Desjardins Drummondville.
During this ceremony, recognition awards will also be given to some athletes who distinguished themselves at the last Quebec Games. However, for these distinctions, no registration is required.
The City and MRC of Drummond are eager to celebrate the talent and determination of our young athletes!
