Breakage, in the home straight! This January 10, 2025, at 7:29 a.m. (French time), Yoann Richommecontacted the Vendée Globe race management and its team on land, in order to inform them of the broken hook of a headsail.

Vendée Globe. Could the “hook”, this small essential part, be the Achilles heel of the Imoca class?

The skipper of the Imoca Paprec Arkéa specified that this breakage caused the sail to fall into the water. However, after 40 minutes of effort, Yoann Richomme managed to bring the torn sail back on board, now unusable, but very dangerous for marine animals if it remained at sea.

Despite this pitfall, the skipper continues his race, and is still expected on Tuesday January 14, in Les Sables d’Olonne.
