During the overtime period between his club and Brynäs IF, Sundsvik was cut in the face by forward Anton Rödin’s skate blade when the latter lost his balance while trying to perform a feint.
At least the one who was drafted in the sixth round of the National Hockey League amateur auction by the Anaheim Ducks in 2020 was not hit in an extremely sensitive place, like the throat, because he was bleeding profusely of the cheek.
Sundsvik, however, remained lying on the ice for several moments, the referee having taken a long time to stop the play. The Rögle head coach was also extremely unhappy with the officials’ decision to let the play continue, and he didn’t hesitate to let them know.
Coming back to the 23-year-old, he was taken to hospital to receive stitches.
“I don’t really know what happened, it is what it is,” Sundsvik explained in comments relayed by the site hockeysverige.se on Monday. Maybe they didn’t see the blood or thought I had been hit in the face with a stick. It’s scary, if I had been hit a few centimeters further it would have been significant seconds.”
Sundsvik was also in uniform during his team’s 3-1 victory against HK Örebro on Tuesday. This season, he has 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 30 games.
