Through the NHL: news from Dakota Joshua, Max Domi fined

The Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Dakota Joshua on injured reserve, the National Hockey League team announced Monday. The decision is retroactive to January 3.

Joshua left Friday’s game against the Nashville Predators with a leg injury. General manager Patrik Allvin did not have details on the nature of the injury or the timing of a possible return to play.

To replace him in the lineup, the Canucks recalled forward Jonathan Lekkerimäki from their Abbotsford farm club in the American Hockey League.

The 20-year-old Swede played his first NHL games earlier this season. In 5 matches, he scored 1 goal. He was drafted 5th overall by the Canucks in 2022.

Joshua is the most recent Canucks player to be sidelined, joining Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko.

Domi fined

The NHL fined Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi US$5,000 for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway in a 3-2 overtime victory of his people, Sunday.

Domi received a minor elbowing penalty on the sequence, which occurred at 5:08 of the third period.

Hathaway also fought Jake McCabe in the first period, which seemed to shake the Maple Leafs defenseman.

Domi tried to fight back in the third period, twice aiming at Hathaway’s head with his elbow near the boards in Flyers territory.

The fine, of a maximum amount established under the collective agreement in force in the NHL, will be paid to the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Leafs and Flyers will face off again on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
