Founded in 1901, the Société de Tir de Pamiers continues to cultivate excellence and sporting values with more than four hundred members. An excellence that is reflected in a well-stocked track record.
Who hasn’t heard of the shooting company which has a room at the Balussou sports complex, just behind the municipal swimming pool? Originally, it was created in 1901 under the name “Société Mixte de Tir”. The statutes of the “Société de Tir de Pamiers” were deposited with the sub-prefecture on February 10, 1954, 71 years ago. The values carried by sports shooting are those of sport in general: self-respect allowing respect for others, acceptance of the rules, the search for excellence, a taste for effort. To these values are added specific values of self-control, both in the neuromuscular and spiritual sense, with a rich complement: learning humility in the face of the difficulty of expressing oneself in immobility, which for many seems very simple.
A talented group
Shooting is a sport that is very well supervised. The Pamiers shooting company currently has more than four hundred licensees. For these many decades, it has followed its own path with brilliant results. The track record is very rich with more than 250 podiums won. Among the winners, we can notably mention Baptiste Cognon, who won the bronze medal for the rifle in the junior category, during his first participation in the French championship in Montbéliard on May 28, 2023, after only a few months of training. Leaders can be proud of their members.
The shooting company offers a shooting school for young people aged 7 to 14, to allow them to discover this sport. It is necessary to be licensed by the French Shooting Federation to be able to practice it. Recreational or competitive shooting can be practiced with a rifle or pistol.
Currently, the office is headed by: Jean-Guy Furic, Jean-Pierre Maurens, Christophe Alfonso, secretary. Yves Bensoussan is the treasurer, Alain Campos is in charge of the shooting school. The shooting company will organize the second round of challenges for young people aged 7 to 13 from Midi-Pyrénées on January 18 and 19, 2025, after Pamiers won the 2024 round.
