A disastrous return, or too many expectations? “Just because you know how to play football doesn’t mean you’re a boss” – Tout le football

The return to the Pro League of some players from whom much was expected does not go as planned. Dennis Praet and Leander Dendoncker are thus far from the level presented at their beginnings.

Last summer, RSC Anderlecht supporters were delighted to see two real Neerpede favorites return to the Pro League: Dennis Praet on the Antwerp side, and of course Leander Dendoncker at Sporting itself.

Six months later, the conclusion is clear: both are huge flops. Particularly Praet: where Dendoncker remains a regular starter at the RSCA and can therefore give hope for an increase in power when he finds his rhythm, the 2014 Golden Shoe is a huge disappointment.

Established only from November, Dennis Praet is struggling to impose his touch and his rhythm on the game of the Great Old, which is having a half-baked season. Recently, against Genk, he came off after 48 minutes, after having had to settle for 6 minutes in the victory against Dender.

“The expectations around Praet were way too high, like around Leander Dendoncker. People thought that because they played in top competitions, they would immediately lay down the law,” points out Hein Vanhaezebrouck in the Gazet van Antwerpen.

“But it’s not because you know how to play football that you are necessarily a boss,” adds the former coach of La Gantoise. Very clearly, whether in Antwerp or Brussels, we are disappointed with the contribution of Dennis Praet and Leander Dendoncker. Did we expect too much?
