Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will return to action this evening when the Boston Bruins visit.
“During recent training sessions, I felt good,” he assured in the morning.
The star player missed his team’s last six games due to an upper-body injury, the same one that kept him out of action for most of November.
Matthews will play on a line completed by Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner.
The Leafs were 3-3-0 in Matthews’ absence.
Jost on the sidelines for the long term
Carolina Hurricanes forward Tyson Jost will seek a second opinion on his lower-body injury and is expected to be out long-term, head coach Rod Brind’Amour said.
Jost last played in the Hurricanes’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on New Year’s Eve.
The 5-foot-11 player split time between the Hurricanes and the Chicago Wolves (AHL) and was last recalled on December 11.
Jost joined the Hurricanes after signing a one-year contract during the off-season. He scored two goals in 16 matches.
Bennett fined
The NHL fined Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett $5,000 for his harsh behavior toward Drew O’Connor of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
When the latter had just recovered the puck behind his net, Bennett punched him in the face.
