Since the summer of 2023, Jonathan Toews has been free as the air. The former captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, winner of three Stanley Cups, could however make a return to play this season and three teams in particular should be closely monitored.
Toews has at least started skating again and National Hockey League (NHL) teams have shown interest since he documented his esoteric five-week healing journey in India on his social media.
The striker, whose last match dates back to April 13, 2023, suffered from digestive problems and symptoms related to long COVID. He finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel.
“He is showing his best form in years,” mentioned informant Frank Seravalli in a segment shared on his X account. He started skating again and several teams contacted his agent Pat Brisson during the holidays. However, we do not yet know if he plans to return this season or the following year.
Still according to Seravalli, three teams should be watched in this matter: the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche. Both the Leafs and the Avalanche are looking for a center player, while Winnipeg is Toews’ home base.
In his final NHL season, 2022-23, Toews had 31 points, including 15 goals, in 53 games with the Blackhawks. He compiled the worst differential of his career, -31.
