the essential
Spending Christmas in the Lot is an opportunity to mix discoveries, magic and traditions. This territory, rich in heritage and landscapes, comes alive this holiday season to offer memorable experiences! Between guided tours, enchanted walks and cultural activities, here is our selection of ideas to liven up this second week of vacation.
Near Saint-Céré, the Très caves invite you to a spectacular immersion. Discovered in 1825, they reveal imposing stalagmites, intriguing columns and draperies of rare finesse, sometimes translucent. The guided tour, lasting approximately 45 minutes, allows you to discover a stalagmite nearly nine meters high, a unique natural feat in Europe. The caves are easy to access and open until December 30.
To prolong the magic, head to the Gramat Animal Park, where an enchanted forest lights up at nightfall until December 30! Luminous animals hide between the trees, while special moments, such as the feeding of wolves, punctuate the visit. For those who are cold, don't worry because the evening ends by the fire, with a hot drink in hand. On its 42 hectares, the park is home to more than 1,000 animals of 150 species, and promises an unforgettable outing.
Culture lovers will find what they are looking for at the Henri Martin museum, in the city center of Cahors. Please note, the museum closes its doors from December 30. In Figeac, the Champollion museum immerses visitors in 5,300 years of writing history, from its origins to modern alphabets. A fascinating visit to the birthplace of the famous hieroglyph decipherer. The museum will exceptionally close its doors on Wednesday January 1st.
For families, the Saint-Céré auditorium offers a storytelling morning on December 31. Fanny Robert and Claire Moinard will delight you from 10:30 a.m., while wooden games await the youngest in a neighboring room. A friendly and free activity not to be missed, accessible from 8 years old.
On the heritage side, the Château de Lantis, in Dégagnac, will evoke on Friday January 3, 2025 “New gifts over the centuries and the subtle art of giving gifts or receiving them”. The visit is free for children under 12 and costs €12 for older children. Everything will be decorated with a small snack in the medieval kitchen of the castle: chocolate, mulled wine, little surprises for the children.
However, for a festive atmosphere, turn to Cajarc where a synthetic ice rink on Place du Foirail will delight skating enthusiasts for only 3 euros, skates included. The Gourdon Christmas village will also invite you to the party. On the program: carriage, face painting, greeting card workshops and traditional songs.
Finally, on December 31 in Lalbenque, a walk around the truffle will allow you to discover the secrets of the “black diamond” of Quercy. A 2.5 km circuit explores truffle landscapes and traditions, nothing better to combine discovery and the great outdoors!
You will have understood it! Between the magic of Christmas, heritage, and friendly activities, the Lot once again has a holiday in store for you full of discoveries and sharing.
