The local Elephants dominated (2-0) the Stallions of Burkina Faso on Sunday in Abidjan. In the same Ivorian capital, Guinea crushed Guinea Bissau (4-1) on Friday. Zambia beat Mozambique (3-0).
South Sudan barely beat Rwanda (3-2). For its part, Sudan took a big step towards qualification by dominating Ethiopia (2-0) at home. Madagascar did the same, outclassing Eswatini (2-0).
Cameroon beat (1-0) the Central African Republic, while Angola took the upper hand (2-0) over Lesotho. The defending champion, Senegal, was held to a draw (1-1) in Monrovia.
The return leg of the second round of the CHAN qualifiers is scheduled for next weekend.
Tunisia, Libya and Morocco are already qualified for this edition, without having to compete in the qualifying phases. They inherited the three places reserved for the North Africa zone, following the refusal of Algeria and Egypt to participate in the competition.
