Corte bows to OGC Nice

During the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France, the Cortenais amateurs came very close to the feat against the professionals of OGC Nice, Saturday December 21. After a 1-1 draw at the end of the 90 minutes, Corte finally lost in the penalty shootout.

Facing the Ligue 1 club, the USC Corte fans came very close to the feat at the end of a typical Coupe de France meeting.

In front of nearly 5,000 spectators, the Nationale 3 team, the 5th level of French football, will not start their match well.

After only 3 minutes of play, Luciani, the Corten goalkeeper, committed a foul on Laborde inside 16 meters.

Penalty for the Nice. Diop rushes and the island captain diverts his attempt.

In the 11th minute, Fabio Perrotto is on the free kick. The ball arrives at the far post on Boussemart, sThe header deceives Dupé and Corte leads 1 to 0.

Then begins the Jacques Luciani show. In a state of grace, the USCC goalkeeper is unbeatable in his goal. He made a series of saves throughout the first period.

And just before half-time, following an uncontrolled tackle, Azuréens defender Nandjou was logically sent off. At the break, Corte is on his way to the feat.

Solid defensively, Corte will break down at the hour mark. Despite a heroic defense, N'Dombélé manages to deceive Luciani.

Nothing more will be scored during regulation time. The penalty shootout will therefore determine the winner.

Perrotto, 4th shooter, finds the crossbar. Clauss converts his and Nice qualifies.

The Corte players emerge from this Coupe de France with their heads held high, having brought honor to amateur football and to all of Corsica.
