Will there be a new stadium in the Rouen area (Seine-Maritime) in the coming years and what will its importance be?
The question that the Rouen Normandy Metropolis is addressing finds a new echo with the ambitions displayed by the FCR. In an article published in the JDD on Sunday December 15, the President Iwan Postel evokes a complex called “Rouen Arena”, of 40,000 places, financed “100% by private financing”, and sources of income which go well beyond the sporting framework.
“No preconceptions on the subject”
Asked about this project at a press conference before the plenary session, Monday December 16, the president of the Metropolis indicated: “We do not have anya priori on the subject. I have not yet learned about the project, other than what was written in this article. We will see if this comes to fruition. Give us the details and we’ll judge for you. »
For his part, the elected representative of Rouen and vice-president of the Metropolis (transport) Cyrille Moreau is, to say the least, much more doubtful: “A stadium with 40,000 seats is an investment of 300 million euros. . This is not seriousa private individual cannot finance it. »
Two studies launched by the Metropolis
In the meantime, the Metropolis is continuing its approach, with the launch of two studies, as Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol recalls: “One concerns the extension of the Diochon stadium, the possibilities of which are not very significant, but there is still a certain margin. And the other concerns the construction of a new stadium, with 15,000-20,000 seats near the Zénith. »
In recent years, the question of a new stadium had already been relaunched by Rouen Normandie Rugby, a club taken over by the entrepreneur Jean-Louis Louvel and which shares Diochon with QRM and the FCR, without ultimately ending up in the sector then anticipated.
