In his entire hockey career, no one has helped Alexander Ovechkin on the ice more than Nicklas Backstrom. The two former partners shared a new moment on the ice on Wednesday.
The Washington Capitals captain continues his recovery following a broken leg. Before practice, the Russian skated and took one-timers.

However, a surprise guest awaited him. Backstrom, on the sidelines for more than a year, practiced with him in sportswear. The two men also exchanged a warm hug.
According to The Hockey Newsthe Swede last skated with the Capitals in October. Backstrom is dealing with complications from his hip resurfacing surgery undergone in June 2022. He played in just eight games last season.
Ovechkin and Backstrom played more than 1,000 games together, most of the time on the same line, both surpassing the 1,000-point plateau. The 37-year-old center has contributed to 276 of the maverick’s 868 career goals.
