Max Verstappen to escape further sanctions for calling Formula 1 stewards a “stupid idiots” on the radio during the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
The four-time world champion already has to complete his community service – a penalty for using the word “Fuck” during an official press conference this season – while he is in Rwanda later this week for the FIA awards gala.
As for the “stupid idiots” insult, journalists expected the FIA to open an investigation after the race. Public criticism of its leaders has not been well received, but several sources report that the governing body has decided to let the incident slide.
This follows a meeting a few days ago between Verstappen and controversial FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The conversation was initiated by Max and his manager, not by the FIA, reports the Verstappen clan.
“As president of the FIA, of course you want to sit down and have a coffee with one of the leading figures of the sport.”
Did this play a role in the fact that the FIA did not open an investigation on Sunday evening? Quite possibly, surprisingly!
